This is my ppt for Case Study 1..enjoy it!!

thanks!!

This week we focusing our discussion more on what is the purpose of Web Design. We usually want to persuade or inform our users by using an interactive web design but at the same time delivering the content effectively...So, what are the most important to observe when designing a web site? There are 4 primary aspects influence web design :

  • content
  • technology
  • visuals
  • economics
What we can say from the pyramid is the content of the web site is important but the surface which is form and function is important too for the content can be deliver effectively.

It's difficult to successfully complete a task if you don't know what you are supposed to be doing.

Web surfers are people and typically not very tolerant of poorly designed web sites. In fact, the evidence indicates that most surfers spend 80% of their time on 20% of the sites they visit. Four out of five web sites get little more than a cursory look before they disappear behind the "back" button.

Each section of your web site design must have an obvious purpose that is easily and quickly understood by the site visitor. No one wants to be confused. While a certain percentage of the web population are incurable problem solvers and will take the time to try to figure out why a section exists, most site visitors will simply click the back button.

As we go through our site design process we look at every section of the site and define it's primary purpose. We use this purpose to guide the development of content for the section.

Understanding the motivation of each site section allows us to concentrate site content on what the section is supposed to accomplish. This enables us to focus each section on defining the preferred action of the visitor.

If your web site design is not creating action it cannot be effective.

Clearly defined purpose and preferred action helps visitors know what to expect and provides a logical and emotional progression to the entire site.

This simplicity makes it easier for site visitors to make the appropriate decisions. It also means less confusion which leads to fewer abandoned visits.

3 parts of web design :

  1. Information Design
  2. Interaction Design
  3. Interface Design (Visual or Presentation Design)

We continue our class by some presentation from members of the class..From the presentations we conclude that most of the web site choose white as their background. This maybe because they want to highlight certain things for user view and of course white is a simple color..

There are 5 things to be considered in process of Information Design :

  1. Message
  2. Audience
  3. Purpose
  4. Background
  5. Structure
and finally don't forget to catch up with my ppt for case study 1 in the next entry..although i did't present in the class due to shy2 cat(hehe) but that's it..TQ..daa

This week Dr J started our class by questioning us about what is web site?what is portal?what differentiate both of it.here is my findings..

web site - is a related collection of World Wide Web (WWW) files that includes a beginning file called a home page. A company or an individual tells you how to get to their Web site by giving you the address of their home page. From the home page, you can get to all the other pages on their site. For example, the Web site for IBM has the home page address of http://www.ibm.com. (The home page address actually includes a specific file name like index.html but, as in IBM's case, when a standard default name is set up, users don't have to enter the file name.) IBM's home page address leads to thousands of pages. (But a Web site can also be just a few pages.)
portal - is a term, generally synonymous with gateway, for a World Wide Web site that is or proposes to be a major starting site for users when they get connected to the Web or that users tend to visit as an anchor site. There are general portals and specialized or niche portals. Some major general portals include Yahoo, Excite, Netscape, Lycos, CNET, Microsoft Network, and America Online's AOL.com. Examples of niche portals include Garden.com (for gardeners), Fool.com (for investors), and SearchNetworking.com (for network administrators).

our class continued by discussing about LMS & CMS..

What IS a Learning Management System?

A Learning Management System (LMS) is used to organize an online learning environment. The term "online" referrers to internet and intranet environments. Typically an LMS provides the means to track users, assess performance, deploy content, and access general administrative functions such as management of users records. Some Learning Management Systems enable the creation of learning content, and others require the use of a front end application such as Authorware to create that content. For example, an Authorware piece can contain all of the training and testing material, and then pass any necessary user and tracking data to an LMS system using Authorware's built-in CMI functions.

What IS a Content Management System?

A content management system (CMS) is a computer software system for organizing and facilitating collaborative creation of documents and other content. A content management system is frequently a web application used for managing websites and web content, though in many cases, content management systems require special client software for editing and constructing articles. The market for content management systems remains fragmented, with many open-source and proprietary solutions available. (Wikipedia)

Finally..we were asked to choose our group member for our project..hm nice..huhu
